Richard Ray Granfors was born on July 9, 1933 in Hillsboro, Oregon.
He was the only child of Glenroy and Letha Granfors. He served in the US Navy from 1952 to 1956 aboard the USS Hornet during the Korean War.
He married Shirley Swain in 1957 and went to work for Fiberboard Paper Mill in Antioch, where he retired 36 years later. He served for many years as Scoutmaster through the Pittsburg United Methodist Church.
He also volunteered for Kaiser and the Antioch Police Department. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years in 2009. He is survived by their six daughters: Debra Rich (Ed), Karen Estep (Bruce), Diana Leffingwell (Steve), Cindy Diffendall (Tom), Pamela Billeci (Mark), Julie Nicolas-Rich (Frank). He leaves behind many grandchildren and great grandchildren. The graveside service is private. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the USS Hornet Museum, the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
