Peggy Banks (Webb)

1940 ~ 2020 (age 79)

Peggy J. Banks (Webb) died peacefully in her Antioch home Monday, June 29, 2020 - just as she had planned.  She laid down for an afternoon nap with her puppy Dinky and decided not to wake up.  Peggy was full of life, confident, kind, bold, loving, fearless, independent and … always right.

Peggy was a devoted mother and with her late husband Bud (d. 2013), cherished their children and spouses - Greg Banks (Theresa), Lora Banks Ley (Greg), Penny Plummer and Nancy Sanders (Matt).

Bud used to refer to her as “super volunteer” - room parent, PTA president, girl scout leader, camp director, little league Beswick Bears team Mom and official score keeper.  She joined everything AND ran everything her kids were involved in growing up.  Rumor has it - she ran the Turner school cake walk and chaperoned AHS Disneyland trip for many more years than she had kids…

Born in Los Angeles, she lived in Antioch nearly 60 years. She grew up in west Pittsburg, attended Mt. Diablo High School, married Bud in 1956 and she and Bud bought their first home in 1964 in Delta Estates - when it was brand new.  Peggy is the only daughter of Lewis and Beatrice Webb with three brothers.  She was predeceased by - Ron (“Sonny”) and James and is survived by younger brother Billy Webb (Walnut, California).

Peggy worked at Glass Containers, Antioch Printing, started her own business in commercial furniture sales and then accounting and took up computers in the 80’s before desktop computers were invented.  She taught computer classes at Antioch High School and then Prospects vocational classes for nearly 20 years until she retired in 2003.  She earned a California Teaching Credential without college because of her early experiences in computing.

Peggy loved to travel.  For ten years, she and Bud traveled the United States in their Dynasty dream motorhome.  By far, her favorite place in the world was Lot #2 at Bear River Summer Homes, her family cabin for 60+ years.  She was a long time member and sometimes trouble maker of Bear River Summer Homeowner’s Tract (BRSHT).  She had a passion for BRSHT and for many years energetically published the Bear Tracts newsletter.

She was loved and will be missed by many including - her grandchildren Christopher, Chad and Curtis Plummer; Brad, Ashley, Rick and Alex Ley; Angela Johnson and Will Sanders as well as great grandchildren Alexis Avalos Banks; Reese, Aubrey, A.J.., Chase, and Carter Plummer; and Lyla and Liana Duggan. Grandchildren Nathan (d. 2017) and Tarah Banks (d. 2017) preceded Nana in death.

In addition to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildrn and brother Bill Webb (Walnut, Ca), Peggy is survived by at least 17 nieces and nephews, cousins and others descending from the Hawkins/Webb family tree. She was also predeceased by Sydney Eden Plummer (d. 2011), late wife of grandson Curtis Plummer and mother of Aubrey.
