Mrs. Paz (Mama Chita) Rodriguez, born January 23, 1919, in San Miguel, El Salvador, has passed away early Saturday morning, September 14, 2019, at her Antioch residence at the age of 100. She was preceded in death by her three children, Alma Olympia Zelaya, Max Zelaya, and Juan Rafael Rodriguez.
Mama Chita was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman. She was a kind and compassionate woman who helped anyone in need. She shared her kindness and took great pleasure in giving children gifts, just to see them smile. She found joy in everything however traveling and spending time with her family was a highlight. While traveling she was able to see her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren within Canada, the U.S., and El Salvador. In addition to travel and family, she also enjoyed some of life’s simple pleasures, flowers, music, poetry, sunset, the Tango, taking photos and eating corn, ice cream, and Nutter Butter Cookies to sweeten her palate. We will definitely miss her sweet and kind disposition every day.
Mama Chita is survived by her two sons Mauricio Zelaya of San Miguel, Miguel Rodriguez of Daly City, CA. Her two daughters, Edith Mora de Lopez of British Columbia, and Martha Rodriguez of Antioch, CA. She is also survived by 35 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She leaves behind a host of other family members and a countless number of friends who will sadly miss her.
Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at Higgins Chapel in Antioch, CA.
