Novelita Callahan, of Antioch, CA, passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at the age of 72.
Novelita was born in San Francisco, CA on December 4, 1948 to parents Richard Chato Burch and Novella Goff.
Novelita attended George Washington High School. During her time there, Novelita was an award-winning orator with Masque & Gavel. She was also in A Capella and the Negro History Club, Vice President of her homeroom and participated in many school activities such as Senior Day. Following her graduation from high school in 1967, Novelita went on to attend City College of San Francisco and many years later, while raising her children, she decided to continue her education pursuing her dreams and attended “CPT” Computer Technologies Program in Berkeley, CA graduating in 1993. Shortly after earning her certification in computer programming, she worked for William Sonoma in San Francisco, CA as a customer service representative for 2 years. From 1997-2004, she worked for CAS Systems Inc. in Oakland, CA assisting customers with tech support.
Novelita enjoyed cooking, shopping, socializing, eating good food, listening to her favorite songs and music as well as watching movies and her favorite tv shows. She was a huge movie enthusiast and could eloquently tell you about the nature of a film without giving away the plot. Novelita enjoyed playing card games such as Pokeno with her friends. When she was able, she enjoyed attending the theatre to see plays as well as live music concerts. She will always be remembered for her flawless cooking skills and her beautiful spirit. Novelita was the anchor of her family and friends, who relied on her great words of wisdom and encouragement. No matter what challenges came up, she was there to support her family and friends through it. She warmed our hearts with her smile and sweet laughter; everyone loved her positive energy.
Novelita is survived by her mother, Novella Goff; her soulmate of 45 years, Isaac Blazer; her son, Alamonté Mosely; her daughter, Syrita Blazer; her sisters, Kathy Smith (Burch), Carmelita Goff, Judy Cunningham (Burch); her brother, David Burch Sr.; brother-in-law, Michael Smith; four grandchildren, Isabella Pino, D’Andrei Isaac Woodard, Syrene Novelita Blazer, Elysia Olivera; a host of nieces, nephews, aunt’s, uncle’s and cousins, Davielle (Davi) Chandler, Dennis (Tinky) Burch Jr., Amber Foy, Joyce Williams, Carol Young, Sandy Rogers, Patricia Mason, Lenore Chin, Codany Holiday III, Kam Smedley, Mariel Christian, Charles Wood and many more devoted close friends and loved ones.
She is preceded in death by her biological father, Richard Chato Burch; two Stepfathers Thomas Callahan and Gerald Goff; Mother in law Ruby Blazer; Father in law Isaac Blazer Sr.; her twin brothers Dennis Burch Sr., Darryl Burch Sr.; her sister Sharon Denise Burch, Millicent Thomas; Grandmother, Marie Thomas; Grandfather, Ashley Sherman Burch Jr.; Grandson, D’Ante’ Andrei’ Woodard; her uncle, Raymond Odoms.
