Markita Ashland passed peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 2nd joining her loving husband Larry who previously went to heaven in 2013.
Born in Calera, Oklahoma, Markita grew up on the family farm before moving to California in 1955. She attended middle and high school in Martinez and where she was fondly nicknamed “dimples”. After school she started a family before embarking on her career. She became a savvy and successful business woman and ultimately an owner who mentored and inspired those around her.
Markita loved to travel – she and Larry often traveled to their favorite destinations including Cabo, Maui and Jamaica. Gardening, cooking, music, entertaining and family were her passions - she lived her life to the fullest!
Markita is survived by her loving children, Craig (Norma) Moore, Lanei (John) Gaudette, Aron Ashland and Ryan Ashland. Markita is also survived by her grandchildren Philip Meza, Brandon Moore and Markita (Kevin) Whitlatch; great-grandchildren, Joselyn Moore, Brody Moore, William Meza, Liam Meza and Emarie Rose. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, god children and many others.
She is also survived and will be dearly missed by her siblings, sisters Loretta Lucido and Theda Richardson and her brother Royce Richardson.
Markita is predeceased by her oldest sister Bobbi J. Covey (1970), brother Billy G. Spiva (1970), father Chester Richardson (1984) and mother Lorene Richardson (1984)
Our sorrow is lightened because we know that Markita and Larry are reunited and surrounded by Mama, Daddy and numerous others that have been patiently waiting for her arrival.
We will forever carry her love, laughter and words of wisdom in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Cancer Society and share an act of kindness in her memory.
