Surrounded by family, Juanita Caroline Avila (Cottrill) went peacefully to be with the Lord at the age of 84 on Sunday, May 6, 2018. Juanita was born and raised in the coal mining country of Wolf Summit, West Virginia. It was in Baltimore where she worked as a typist for the US Airforce that she met her lifetime love, Jose Avila, whom she married and soon afterwards moved to California. Raising a family of four while working various jobs did not keep her from enjoying dancing late into the night with her husband Jose. She devoted much of her time to raising the children and attending to their many activities. As a passionate homemaker, she loved creating unique quilts, hats and teddy bears as gifts for friends and family. She enjoyed going bowling and later in life became a very active Bingo player. Juanita was deeply loved and truly touched the hearts of everyone she met.
Juanita is survived by her husband of 62 years Jose Avila; son David Avila; three daughters Diane Dorn, Dona Lisa Otto, Brenda Mossotti and is the beloved grandmother to 9 grandchildren: Jason and Brian Knott; Tiffany and Jamie Avila; Tyler and Gavin Dorn; Gianna, Vincent and Nicolas Mossotti. Born to a family of 12 siblings, she is survived by twin brothers Mack and Jack Cottrill as well as two sisters Nyda Rudy and Loretta Anderson.
A Funeral Service followed by a reception will be held Monday, May 14, 2018 at 11:00 AM - Higgins Chapel, 1310 A Street, Antioch.
