Joseph Carey Hutchison (Carey), 84, passed away at home, surrounded by family on January 22, 2021. He was the husband of Diane Hutchison. They were high school sweethearts, and went on to share 65 years together. Carey, as he was known to family and friends, touched many lives with his generous, loving spirit and positive outlook on life.
Born in Townsend, Delaware, Carey was the son of Joseph C. Hutchison, Sr., and Anita Marvel Hutchison. He graduated from Middletown High School and earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Delaware. Carey enjoyed a 40-year career starting as a chemist for American Cyanimid, moving into sales, marketing and product roles with Allied Chemical, and Executive positions with Universal Flavors. He finished his career as the Chief Executive Officer of Sanofi Bio Ingredients, NA. He was active in many industry associations, serving as the President of NAFFS and sitting on the board for FEMA. Carey is remembered by many for his career guidance and mentoring. He retired in 1998.
Carey was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Brentwood, CA, a member of the Kappa Alpha order and enjoyed several years as a Scout Leader. He could often be found enjoying a round of golf, traveling, or attending sporting events to watch his grandchildren play.
Carey leaves his wife Diane, and their three children, Donald Hutchison (Sharon) of Mundelein, IL, Lawrence Hutchison (Jennifer) of Cloverdale, CA, and Beth Hutchison-Lopez (Ed) of Brentwood, CA. He also leaves eight grandchildren, Shawna, Connor, Kristen, Kyle, Matthew, Cole (Brianna), Austin, and Elijah, and two great grandchildren, Madyline and Ayvia.
