John received his primary education in Hammond New York. Crippled by osteomyelitis since boyhood he finished high school early at 16 years of age, and graduated Barber College in Flint Michigan during the depression. Due to his crutches John served the war effort by providing haircuts to our soldiers in WWII. He worked as a barber (full time)for 60 years and finally retired from his own shop at 76 years of age.
John was a mason and an avid sportsman. He served as president of the Bay Point Rod and Gun Club for years. But especially memorable was getting up at 0400 to fish with Dad on vacations!
Having survived the depression Grandpa became super frugal and taught us to avoid debt like the plague. He was devoted to his family and spent his life saving to care for his wife and loved ones after his death.
Dad adored his mother who gave him a formal British upbringing. She taught him to be very polite and courteous. He became quite the "ladies man" and in his old age women found him adorable with his toothless grin. We will always miss you Grandpa.
