Jerold Michael Johnston
Jerry was born in Antioch, attended local schools, Antioch HS Alum 1963, member of Holy Rosary Parish, moved to Concord in 1970 as employee at Goodwill Industries Futures Program. Jerry’s positive outlook on life endeared him to his family and his many friends. Even dealing with his last illness, Jerry would say, “I am fine. I am as fine as can be.” Jerry lived independently at Plaza Towers with support from The Regional Center of the East Bay Services and the Independent Living Services of Harmony Home, in particular Martha Pantoja, Candice Sprecher, and Karen Good. Jerry is the proud owner of Oakland Athletics baseballs caught at the Coliseum with his Aunt Cottie Cakebread! The family is grateful to the staff at John Muir Hospital in Concord for their sensitive and respectful care of Jerry, allowing him to face his final illness with courage and peace. Jerry was predeceased by his parents, Juanita (Midge) Mc Coy and Rupe Johnston; his brothers Bill Welch and Tom Johnston; and his niece, Clare Welch Brooks. He is survived by his nephew, Michael (Julie) Welch, his sisters-in-law Delores Welch (Bill), Gail Faris (Tom), Sheila Johnston (Tom), numerous grandnieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and his life-long friend John Riley.
