Gloria Cristina Pinell

May 2, 1928 ~ July 1, 2022 (age 94)

Tribute

Gloria Cristina Pinell, affectionally known as “Mina” of San Francisco and Antioch, CA, sadly passed away peacefully on July 1, 2022, at the age of 94. She passed away in Fairfield, CA along side her beloved sister Blanca Pinell, nephew Cesar Pinell, Jr., and his wife Brigette. Gloria was born in Granada, Nicaragua on May 2, 1928 to Marcelina and Ricardo Pinell.

Gloria graduated from Maria Auxiliadora Secundaria in 1945. As the matriarch of the family which she loved dearly, she was instrumental to their immigration to the United States around 1956 where they settled down in San Francisco to live a better life. Both Gloria and her sister Blanca were loving aunties who raised their niece Gloria Cristina, nephew Cesar Augusto, Jr., and cared for their mother Marcelina.

She began working at Levi Strauss in San Francisco, and before long she joined the San Francisco Unified School District, where she acquired many friends, and had a wonderful reputation as a valuable and dependable employee. She retired in January 1992 to take care for their mother full-time until her passing in January 2000. Shortly after, Gloria and Blanca moved from San Francisco to Antioch in 2001 to live closer to their brother Bayardo, Sr.

Gloria enjoyed gardening, loved shopping for fine linens, bedding, perfumes and scented candles and she had a good eye for quality, and spared no expense for what she liked. As her eyesight began to fail, she was determined to get around and manage herself independently, and miraculously even managed to cut her sisters hair and did a pretty good job. Gloria had a great appetite and enjoyed eating a variety of dishes, especially those from her native country, and loved chocolate, Tamarindo candies and espumias (merengues).

Gloria was predeceased by her parents, Ricardo and Marcelina Pinell, niece Gloria Cristina Pinell her sister Cora Pinell and brother Cesar Augusto Pinell, Sr.

Gloria is survived by her beloved sisters Blanca Pinell, Lilliam Aranda and brothers Bayardo Pinell, Sr. (Lupe) and Ricardo Pinell (Eliana) and her loving caretakers, Cesar Jr. and Brigette along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and god children.

Mina was a very loving and giving daughter, sister, aunt, godmother and friend to all those blessed to have had her in their lives and will be missed greatly.
