Tribute

Dorothy May Sherfield , our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and loving friend passed away on July 3rd, 2021.

Dorothy was the cherished wife of Roy(Jim) James Sherfield ,the amazing mother to Carrie, James and Michael, and loving grandmother to Brandon, Breanne, and Madison.

Dorothy’s wonderful life began in 1942 when she was born on January 6th to loving parents Dewey and Lillie Porter. Dorothy was born in Elgin, Oklahoma on Porter Hill. Though very soon after her birth she would become a California girl, as her family would move west to Tracy California when she was just one years old. Tracy was home for Dorothy as she would graduate from Tracy High School in 1959. It was in Tracy where she would eventually meet the love of her live, Jim. They would meet at a dance, and as the story goes although Dorothy caught the eye of a few gentlemen Jim was the only one that “HAD” to ask her to dance because it was love at first sight. Shortly after that dance Dorothy and Jim were together all the time , they would marry a year later on August 12th, 1961.

Shortly after getting married Dorothy and Jim would move to Roswell, New Mexico were they would welcome into the world their daughter Carrie in 1962. Dorothy would once again find herself moving back to California, this time to Antioch , where she would plant her roots and make her home for the remainder of her life. Dorothy’s family would grow once back in California as they would welcome son James Allen in 1967, her family would be complete in1974 when her son Michael was born.

Dorothy began work for Bank of America in 1968, she loved her job and the many co-workers she had the joy of meeting throughout the years. Dorothy would retire in 1997, which would give her more time to do what she loved most, spend time with her family. If it wasn’t a weekend trip to the Indian Casinos, where she always seemed to run into a bit of luck, it was a Disneyland trip or a vacation to Hawaii, or one of many cruises to Mexico and Alaska, even a trip to see WrestleMainia. Wherever she went her family was always by her side. One of her most memorable trips is when Jim took her to Graceland as she was a huge Elvis fan. When Dorothy wasn’t traveling, she did enjoy reading romance novels , watching Hallmark movies , cooking, and baking. She did make amazing cookies, but I believe most will miss her homemade German Chocolate Cake as it had to be the most delicious cake in the world. She will be missed the most of course around the holidays as she always made them great, every Christmas , Thanksgiving and Easter meal was made with love and the invites made out to everyone she loved. Even Halloween, we will miss seeing her dress up as she always did. These memories will last her family a lifetime.

Dorothy is survived by her forever loving husband Roy (Jim) Sherfield , daughter Carrie Jacka and husband Rick, son Allen Sherfield and wife Denise, grandchildren Brandon and Breanne Jacka, sister Ellen Porter, brother Jimmy Porter.

She is proceeded in death by her parents Dewey and Lillie Porter, brothers Buddy, Tom an T.J. , sister Opal, son Michael and granddaughter Madison.
