After a long battle with cancer, Jeff passed away peacefully at home on Sunday May 17th with family and friends by his side. Jeff recently celebrated his 60th birthday, and last year he and his wife Barbara celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with a trip to Las Vegas.
Jeff was an avid hunter and fisherman, spending many hours up in the mountains or on the Delta. He had a side business making and repairing fishing rods, ‘DJ’s Fishing rod and repair’. He was well known in the area, having grown up here and graduating from Antioch High School. If you have seen the metal Panther sculpture in front of the school, Jeff made that. He loved to make deals with people, always trading this for that, what you would call “a horse trader”. If you ever needed help with something he would volunteer, always willing to lend a hand. Jeff and his wife Barbara both had a love for auto racing and would switch off the years of one being the driver and the other on the pit crew. Early in their marriage they spent many and most of their Saturdays at the Antioch Speedway.
Jeff is survived by his loving wife Barbara (nee Fletcher) whom he would always do anything for, his daughter Melissa, his son Jeffery (Mallory), his grandchildren Will, Gage and Codie. His sister Vanessa and brother Vince. He is also survived by his nephew Vince Jr. (Jasmine) and niece Tameka, along with his extended family and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his mother Ina Myatt (nee Stallings), father Donald Skaggs, and step-father Willie ‘the silver fox’ Myatt. He will be greatly missed by all his family and many friends.
Due to current social distancing, funeral services are not allowed at this time. Higgins Chapel of Antioch is handling arrangements. Jeff will be placed to rest in Union Cemetery, Brentwood California. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday May 27th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, please email: Ksolund@comcast.net for further information or to send a message to the family.
