July 21, 1937 ~ January 26, 2022 (age 84)

Tribute

Daniel Olan Rivera, 84, of Oakley, California, passed away on January 26, 2022 in Madera, California. Daniel was born in Puerto Rico to Juan Francisco Olan Camacho and Carmen Rivera. He grew up with seven Siblings: Milagros, Miguel, Juan, Monserrate, Aurora, Providencia, and Quintin.

He was always working at a young age around the house to help his mother, he would climb the trees to cut down coconuts, he would walk to the stream on their property to gather water in buckets with his siblings since they didn’t have running water, he gathered crops for his mother to prepare food, this is where he learned about plants and which was safe to eat as he learned this from his mother. He started working at a young age, his first job was cutting sugar cane in Puerto Rico where he made .05 cents an hour. His father was self-employed as a retail merchant and his mother was a homemaker. From this, sparked his passion for gardening; he really had a green thumb. He moved to Miami, Florida from Puerto Rico, where he lived with his oldest sister Milagros and her husband for a few years, working in the fields picking oranges and sugar cane. His oldest brother Miguel called him to come out to California for work, so he took the earliest Greyhound bus available to Stockton, where his brother picked him up, where he then lived with his brother and his sister-in-law Maria.

Daniel met Daisy at her sister Vida Luz wedding at twenty years of age, Daisy was eighteen years old, a senior in high school. They fell in love at first sight the first day he arrived from Puerto Rico in Brentwood, California. Daniel was twenty three years old when he married Daisy, at the age of twenty one. Within a year they had started a family, complete with three children, Danny, David and Daisy. As a family he would take them to Sunday Mass, then afterwards to go out eat lunch and finish the day off by visiting his mother-in-law with their children so they can see their Abuela. He always took his family on road trips, they went fishing, to Santa Cruz, Baseball Games, and to the National Parks. Every Saturday he had a different adventure planned. Of course he loved his camping. Even though he didn’t have much, he always did right for his family. He was a dependable father who always helped others out even if he didn’t have much to offer. The utmost importance to Daniel is that he certainly did not disappoint when it came to wholeheartedly loving his family and friends.

In addition to his wife Daisy and his children Danny, David and Daisy; Daniel is survived by his grandchildren, Diego, Diandra, DeLara, Christian, Caitlyn, and Alyssa; also by his daughters-in-law Terese Jarvis Olan and Gina Gonzalez Olan; and his surviving siblings Juan, Monserrate and Quintin Olan. He was preceded in passing by his parents Juan Francisco Olan Camacho, Carmen Olan Rivera; his siblings Milagros, Miguel, Providencia, and Aurora.

His family will be present to welcome loved ones with open arms.

Sincerely,

The Olan Family
