Bobby entered the United States Army in 1950 and was Honorably Discharged in 1952. While serving in the Army, Bobby’s parents and family members moved to Antioch, California. At the time of his discharge, he decided to set up residence in Antioch, California. On February 13, 1953, Bobby married his soul mate and life partner Elsie Wallace of Tiptonville, Tennessee.

Bobby began working as a teenager. He always worked hard and provided for his family. His first job in Antioch was a cabinet maker at Fulton Shipyard. In late 1953, Bobby changed jobs and went to work as a mechanic on the hot end at Glass Containers, where he finished his career.

Bob loved the outdoors, which included hunting, especially deer and dove, camping with his family and fishing with family and friends. Bob and several Glass Container employees sponsored a stock car, prepared the car to race, worked in the pits and drove the orange and black Glass Slipper 77A. Bobby and the family took numerous vacations in Tennessee and Georgia when the kids were young. At one time, Ken’s Babe Ruth team needed a manager and coaches so Bob and 2 close friends took on the task. Around that time, Bob actively began supporting the Antioch Sea Scouts.
