Devoted dad of Susan and Skip Grace who lives in Searcy, Arkansas, Vicki and Dennis Easterday who lives in Antioch, California, Ken and Sharon Zimmerman who lives in Lake Forest, California and Glenn Zimmerman who lives in Edgefield, South Carolina. He has 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was also the uncle to a host of nieces and nephews. Bobby’s childhood and school days were spent in Hogansville, Georgia. Bobby’s parents Reuben and Louise Zimmerman had 8 children. Bobby was their third child and last surviving child.
Bobby entered the United States Army in 1950 and was Honorably Discharged in 1952. While serving in the Army, Bobby’s parents and family members moved to Antioch, California. At the time of his discharge, he decided to set up residence in Antioch, California. On February 13, 1953, Bobby married his soul mate and life partner Elsie Wallace of Tiptonville, Tennessee.
Bobby began working as a teenager. He always worked hard and provided for his family. His first job in Antioch was a cabinet maker at Fulton Shipyard. In late 1953, Bobby changed jobs and went to work as a mechanic on the hot end at Glass Containers, where he finished his career.
Bob loved the outdoors, which included hunting, especially deer and dove, camping with his family and fishing with family and friends. Bob and several Glass Container employees sponsored a stock car, prepared the car to race, worked in the pits and drove the orange and black Glass Slipper 77A. Bobby and the family took numerous vacations in Tennessee and Georgia when the kids were young. At one time, Ken’s Babe Ruth team needed a manager and coaches so Bob and 2 close friends took on the task. Around that time, Bob actively began supporting the Antioch Sea Scouts.
Visitation and services for Bobby Zimmerman will be held on Tuesday, July 6th from 9:30am-11:00am at Higgins Chapel in Antioch followed by a Graveside Service at Oak View Cemetery.
