Antonia Burri (née DeMont) of Burlingame entered into rest, following a long, full life, at age 91 on Sunday, January 29, 2023.
Born on June 10th, 1931 in Chur, Switzerland, the 5th of 11 kids - 8 girls and 3 boys, Antonia immigrated to the United States on her 21st birthday in 1952.
A kind, caring, and loving woman with an upbeat, positive outlook on life who spread joy to all who knew her, Antonia dedicated her life to being a wonderful mother to her daughter, Bea (Dennis) and four sons, Frank, Dan (Keri), Dave (Karen), and Mark (Samantha). Her ten grandchildren, Steven, Kristie, Amanda, Michelle, Sabrina, Devin, Payton, Nicole, Emerson, and John, brought her tremendous joy.
Antonia’s early upbringing on a farm in Sevgein, a village located in the Swiss Alps, had a strong influence on her and was the foundation of her lifelong grit and strength. A loving, caring, loyal, hardworking, and intelligent woman, she was fluent in English, Romansh, German, Swiss-German, and French.
Despite having no desire to be the center of attention, when Antonia spoke, everyone listened and was rewarded with thoughtful, compassionate, and supportive words. She’ll be remembered for her beautiful smile, vibrant laugh, easy way with people, zest for life’s experiences, strength, and love, which will live on through those whose lives she touched. Antonia was a shining example of God’s love, patience, and forgiveness, and was a long-time member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Parish in Burlingame.
A private memorial service for family is planned. Antonia’s final resting place will be at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Colma.
