Donald Rayborn Vaughn

Don was born in Marked Tree, Arkansas and passed away in Antioch after a long battle with heart disease. He worked at Cotton Gins in Queen Creek, Arizona in the late 1950's and early 1960's. He worked for all three papermills in Antioch, from 1963-1996 - beginning with Fibreboard and ending with Gaylord Companies and was also a member of AWPPW Local 713 and Local 850 paperworkers unions. In 1996 he lost his left arm after an industrial accident at the papermill and retired.
Don married Dorothy Irene Baine on May 19, 1956 in Arkansas and passed away on their 61st wedding anniversary. He loved his family very much and they were his number one priority. He loved music, guitars, all sports - especially golf and baseball. His favorite team was the St. Louis Cardinals. He had two hole-in-ones playing golf with one arm. He coached his sons Babe Ruth baseball team the Antioch Stationers in the 1970's. He liked fishing with his kids especially at Pine Crest just above Sonora, CA and the Delta.
He was preceded in death by parents William Audie Vaughn and Cressie Vaughn, son Gary Lynn Vaughn, brothers Buddy, Buford, Earl, Melvin, Junior, Raymond, Alton and Travis, sisters Pauline, Bobbie, Geraldine and Caroline, and son-in-Law Mike Mercurio. Survived by his wife Dorothy Vaughn of Antioch and his daughter Rita Mercurio of Antioch, sons Wayne Vaughn and Terry Vaughn of Oakdale, CA, sister Evelyn Brady of Redding, CA, daughter-in-law Ruth Ann Vaughn of Oakdale, sisters-in-law Marion Vaughn of Antioch, Ruby Vaughn of Mesa, AZ, Ruby Marshal of Bakersfield, CA and Geneva Hopkins of Missouri, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no funeral services at Donald's request but he will be interned at Oak View Cemetery in Antioch, CA. There will be a private gathering at a later date.
